  • Position Summary

    This is a full-time, permanent post, reporting to the Student Life Coordinator. The post holder will make a significant contribution to the work of the Student Life team, across a diverse range of areas, and will be supporting students throughout the year on various programmes from pre-arrival through to departure. In particular, the Student Life team provides multiple opportunities for our students to engage with UK culture, to help them to develop more knowledge about (and direct experience of) its distinctive local nature, and to complement the site’s academic curriculum. The role will have accountability for specific projects, as well as a large number of day-to-day administrative responsibilities, which are shared among all staff in the Student Affairs Office, as outlined below.


    There will be on-call duties involved in the role, on a rota system with other staff, and regular evening & weekend work is required.


    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

    Emergency and Crisis Response Management: 10%
    Student support outside of office hours, including (but not limited to):

    • 24/7 emergency phone response duty rota
    • Respond to emergency situations
    • Report promptly to supervisors concerns about student well-being


    Student Information & Support:  45%

    Delivery of information, support and activities to students, including (but not limited to):

    • Dealing with enquiries in the Student Affairs Office
    • Supporting the Cultural Programming provision within the Office
    • Supporting the work of the Student Workers in the Office
    • Assisting with the planning, delivery and promotion of a variety of student
      workshops and events, including day trips
    • Meeting a group of first year students from time to time to ensure they have the
      support and resources they need
    • Assisting with the development of the Community Service programme
    • Administrating NYU ID card and TfL photocard creation processes
    • Support the general activities of the Student Life department (e.g. orientation,
      housing check-in and check-out, updating databases)


    Cultural Programming: 25%
    Lead administrator of NYUL’s Cultural Programme.  The Student Life Administrator (Cultural Programming) should be well versed in cultural activities and feel comfortable and confident leading a group of students to a variety of cultural events and destinations across London and the UK.  This person would be expected (once fully-trained) to provide information to the group that helps them to understand the cultural significance of the site they are visiting, whether this be through an explanation of the site’s history, its art, or any other element which makes the visit culturally distinct.


    This role will also involve liaising with external providers and student groups to arrange opportunities and events each semester, including (but not limited to):


    • Creating, organizing, promoting and leading Cultural Programming events, both ongoing and one-off
    • Chaperone students on Cultural Programming events
    • Organize and administrate the event sign up process and student attendance databases 
    • Assist in gathering feedback on programming events


    Health & Wellness: 10%
    Supporting students in finding appropriate health and wellness resources, including (but not limited to):

    • Booking doctor’s appointments for students
    • Helping students to navigate their private health insurance (HTH) and obtain Guarantee of Payment letters.
    • Accompanying students to hospital and doctor’s appointments when required


    Additional areas of responsibility: 10%

    Assist the Student Life Administrator (Volunteering) with the organization and running of a full and vibrant programme of volunteering opportunities available to students of NYU London.

    Information & Social media
    Including (but not limited to):


    • Promoting upcoming events
    • Contributing to the regular reviewing, updating and refreshing of Student Life content on the NYUL website and Intranet site for students
    • Social media management and updating


    HOST Programme:

    Promoting and administrating the HOST programme to NYUL students

    Student Unions:
    Promoting opportunities for NYUL students to meaningfully integrate into local University life at both Student Central and UCL Union, working with providers to administrate the memberships, and developing new ideas and opportunities for students.


    The responsibilities outlined here are not exhaustive. You may be required to undertake other duties and training as requested by your line manager or as required by the Director of NYUL, which are broadly commensurate with the nature and level of this position.

      way that excites, motivates and teaches visiting students.
    • Passionate and knowledgeable about London and capable of sharing this passion
      with others
    • Ability to work in an organized, detailed manner within a fast-paced student
    • Ability to gather and report information accurately, clearly, and concisely
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with developed skills in using
      social media to communicate with young people
    • Enthusiastic team-player with the ability to build relationships with colleagues,
      suppliers and students
    • Genuine interest in the development of young people
    • Understanding of the needs and expectations of international students
    • Awareness of and ability to maintain, appropriate staff/student boundaries.
    • Punctual, responsible, self-motivated & flexible
    • Ability to use own initiative



    • An undergraduate degree or equivalent
    • An ability to relate well to people of other cultures
    • Willingness to travel throughout the UK. This includes the ability to work “outside
                      of office hours” either at night or at weekends
    • Ability to sustain a “can do” attitude and creatively problem-solve under pressure
    • Demonstrate aptitude for providing high quality customer service
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build
      relationships with other members of the NYUL team, suppliers,
                      students and staff
    • Computer literate; passionate about communicating using a variety of online
      resources such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, YouTube, google+, etc.
    • Good working experience of using MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS
    • Ability to work on own initiative with little supervision



    • Knowledge of how to plan and implement a diverse range of Cultural Programming opportunities to meet University student needs
    • Ability to lead student groups on cultural visits, ideally with ability to convey interesting and relevant information on the history, artistic traditions and cultural heritage of the sites visited
    • International travel and/or study abroad experience
    • Knowledge of the American higher education system
