  • Position Summary

    The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) is a full-time position within NYU Paris’ Student Life Department. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Life, and working in partnership with other members of the Student Life team, the RLC has primary responsibilities for Housing (residences, NYU vetted apartments, home stays) and Residential Life at NYUP. The RLC supports all aspects of the student residential experience from pre-arrival through departure and monitors students’ well being in coordination with NYU P’s Wellness Counselor. The RLC supervises and coordinates all aspects of the programs and services for the NYU Paris residential facilities (both community development as well as administrative responsibilities such as room selection, PMs/RAs selection, room changes, and semester transition). The RLC provides and coordinates crisis intervention to residents, including assessing the nature of problems and resolving or referring for resolution, conducting investigations of alleged violations of University and residence policies, advising students and collaborating with NYU Paris staff to create a living and learning community to enrich students’ University experience, developing and implementing residential learning community programs and initiatives. The RLC will spend part of his/her work hours in the housing facilities. The RLC completes other duties as assigned by the ADSL or required by the Director of NYUP.


    Duties and Responsibilities:


    Residence Life & Resident Assistants:


    • Assign students housing in residence halls (Montsouris, Midf, FEU) and NYU Paris-vetted apartments and home stays for each semester and shorter programs (currently 150 to 250 students per semester)
    • Utilize StarRez housing database (customized for NYU) to make housing assignments, input, update, share housing and billing information in a timely manner according to NYU Global instructions
    • Ensure that all student rooms in all residence halls, homestays, and apartments are clean and in full working order at the beginning of each program start date.
    • Ensure that security standards are met in NYU Paris residence halls, apartments, and home stays. Report any security concerns to his/her hierarchy
    • Under the supervision of the ADSL, create, review, and implement rules, policies, and procedures for residential living
    • Coordinate and monitor the operations of the current three residences
    • Oversee end-to-end resolution of housing problems
    • Supervise Residence Hall Receptionist and work closely with the residence Manager (Landlord employee) at Résidence Montsouris
    • Recruit, train, and supervise (on average) 7 Resident Assistants (graduate student) and Peer Mentors per academic year and summer session under supervision of ADSL
    • Manage NYU Paris housing pool so it adequately meets needs of varying enrolment for each semester or program. Report any variance in quantity and quality to his/her hierarchy in due time and make recommendations to address concerns


    NYU Paris-vetted homestays and apartments:

    • Coordinate the occupation of approximately 50 apartments and 20 homestays during the Fall and Spring semesters (when needed)
    • Organize vetting process for apartments and liaise with partner rental agency, owners, and host families
    • Ad-hoc projects: find additional beds as needed in residence halls, apartments, and homestays


    Student Life:

    • Participate with his/her hierarchy at NYU Paris and with OGP in NY in developing and implementing Residential Life orientations for all programs as needed
    • Collaborate with colleagues from NYU Paris to coordinate student arrivals and departures, including leading housing orientation and organization (i.e., make sure materials are ready, lead orientation sessions in all residence halls, etc
    • Respond and/or direct students to available resources concerning health and wellness support
    • Report student conduct incidents in Advocate reporting system


    Communicating about Student Life procedures and events:

    • Contribute content to electronic weekly newsletter (or other media) for students and staff
    • Liaise with the Office of Global Programs/Communication Coordinator to review and update Residential Life materials
    • Communication via Student Life department e-mail alias: nyu.paris.studentlife@nyu.edu


    • Chaperone extracurricular excursions and activities as needed
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Participate in the emergency phone rotation


    This job requires flexibility as it involves working after traditional business hours, including working some evenings, weekends, staggered works, and on an  “on call” basis.


    • BA or Master’s Degree or equivalent degree in Hospitality and Management
    • Three year experience in the field of international education preferable
    • Bilingual French/English
    • Excellent knowledge of Paris and French administration
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent knowledge of Pack Office (Microsoft Office Pack) and ready to learn different systems and applications
    • Ability to work well and positively with diverse personalities
    • The candidate should have valid working papers for France
