Position Summary

The Assistant Director for Student Life has responsibility for all aspects of student life, including safety, cultural and community activities, acquisition of leadership skills, student conduct, and appropriate coordination for health and wellness issues. A key focus of this position is to ensure the effective delivery of high quality student support programs and extra-curricular activities that meet NYU’s strategic goals. The Assistant Director for Student Life is also responsible for designing and supporting a holistic, equitable, and immersive learning environment. This position is a member of the senior leadership team for NYU Paris.  The post-holder will work closely with all other departments at NYU Paris in promoting the profile of NYU in France’s broader community as well as internationally.

Qualifications

Required Education

Masters degree

 

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a comparable role.
  • Minimum of 4 years managerial/administrative experience in higher education or other similar institutions.
  • Evidence of high-quality leadership skills.
  • Experience in: Emergency response and Event planning.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bilingual French/English. (Oral and written)
  • Strong familiarity with French and US higher education landscape and culture
  • Excellent database & record keeping skills.
  • Excellent overall communication skills including proven cultural sensitivity and eloquence to communicate appropriately with a multi-national and multi-cultural audience of students, academics and administrators.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations calmly and be a creative problem-solver.
  • Work permit for France (or the EU).

Preferred Education
Graduate degree in relevant field, professional training in student affairs area of university programs.

 

Preferred Experience  
• Research, teaching, and/or administrative connections to NYU Paris’s local partner universities.

  • Studied/worked both at US and French universities.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities  

Knowledge of relevant US, French, and EU laws, protocols and best practices.

Additional Information

Work permit for France (or EU) is required.
