This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Deputy Director for NYU London. The new Associate Dean of Student Life (ADSL) will be part of the NYU London leadership team.
The Associate Dean’s primary focus will be the diverse student population at NYU London, and will lead a team of student affairs professionals.
The ADSL is responsible for actively engaging with students to foster positive relationships within the NYU London community. They will lead and support initiatives for proactive student connections that will enhance their experience in London; address pressing student concerns; and create programs promoting a supportive environment.
The Associate Dean for Student Life will provide leadership across NYU London to foster student belonging, wellbeing, and engagement.
The postholder may also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching within the academic programs, where appropriate.
Key responsibilities include:
Leadership and strategy
- Lead site-wide belonging initiatives and community engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate on assessment, program redesign, and strategy development to strengthen the student experience.
- Serve as a thought partner to NYU London leadership and Global Programs, offering creative solutions to emerging student needs.
Student Support
- Take a central role in critical incident response and ensure coordinated support for students.
- Identify and analyze trends within the student community and align services and programs with institutional goals.
Collaboration and partnerships
- Work closely with colleagues across NYU London and Global Programs to enhance site-wide programs and structures.
- Build and sustain partnerships internally and externally across the University.
Visibility and engagement
- Be highly visible and accessible to students, both formally (liaising with student cohorts) and informally (engaging with students who may not participate in structured university activities).
- Support student activism and ensure multiple voices are included in university initiatives.
Team leadership
- Supervise and support key team members to deliver high-quality student services.

Principal Accountabilities :
General: 30%
- Partnering with the Deputy Director and Global Programs, provide leadership in advancing and enhancing the site’s strategic student life initiatives and overseeing critical operational processes.
- Lead the Student Life team, overseeing day-to-day operations and providing direct supervision to foster collaboration across NYU London staff and, where appropriate, other NYU global sites and Global Programs to design and execute programming, events, and communications to engage effectively with students and families.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement priorities, professional development opportunities, and assessment strategies for a site of over 800 students, and a budget of £1.1 million.
- Foster meaningful relationships within the NYU London community, collaborating to create experiences that inspire students to grow holistically in order to contribute to the University community and beyond.
- Lead and support efforts for the student life team to engage positively with students, address their concerns, and create initiatives that promote a supportive environment. Provide leadership on key initiatives fostering belonging across the university.
- Oversee student complaints and conflicts and oversee and coordinate handling of all cases. Work with the Student Services, Support and Standards Officer on escalated/emergency student violations, criminal activity, and disciplinary matters.
- Take a central role in providing support and on-the-ground responses during emergencies and urgent incidents. Actively participate or co-lead the Critical Incident Team, contributing to the effective management of crises.
Strategic oversight of Student/Residential Life : 30%
- Supervise the delivery of a comprehensive student and residential life and housing program in accordance with established practices at NYU New York and with UK regulations, overseeing community development in the NYU London residences.
- In addition to supervising housing allocations, policies and procedures, represent NYU London in external housing partner relationships, and new location assessments.
- Provide strategic guidance and support to colleagues (in/beyond the Student Life team) to enhance university and site-based student-centered administrative policies and procedures.
- Ensure effective communication and alignment on student-focused initiatives and institutional matters. Act as a flexible and creative thought partner with the Deputy Director and Global Programs in building the best possible systems and policies for the NYU London students and addressing wellbeing issues faced by students while studying away, especially given today’s complex higher education environment.
- Advise senior leadership and Global partners on creative solutions to emerging student concerns and needs on and off campus.
- Oversee the non-academic student experience at NYU London; develop strategies, processes and methods to enhance provision and to implement improvements wherever possible; develop and lead programs for students at all levels that will enhance and diversify their experience in London.
- Ensure effective and inclusive departmental output on all extra-curricular events and activities for students, communication campaigns, etc.
Student Safety, Wellness and support: 30%
- Work closely with the Wellness Counselors to sustain a welcoming, supportive community in which students can flourish.
- Work closely with the Department of Campus Safety, plan for and address critical student safety and well-being issues. This includes the development and implementation of comprehensive preparedness and response plans.
- Partner with site leadership, Wellness Counselor, and Global Programs to assess the effectiveness of non-clinical support services, ensuring they meet the highest standards.
- Facilitate communications and coordination to provide integrated support services and resources for students, fostering a secure and supportive environment that promotes their overall success and well-being.
- Represent Student Affairs both externally and internally at various events and functions, including appropriate University Development and Alumni Relations events.
- Working with the Office of Parent and Family Programs in NY, foster strong relationships with parents and families to enhance their involvement and support for the university.
- Oversee parent and family engagement initiatives.
